Other Characters: N/A
Name: Skywarp
From: Transformers Animated
Appearance: Skywarp looks like this! He's a pretty darn massive robot--tall and broad through the shoulders, streamlined through the hips and waist, with sculpted legs and arms like a football player. (He's actually a little topheavy, but don't tell him that; he fears criticism.) He's got a long face--literally--and perky upswept wings, and he's been blessed with a rather fetching black, purple, and silver paintjob.Unlike some poor slaggers.
Age: I'll be taking him from immediately after his last appearance on the show, so very young. Seriously, not more than a few days. However, between Skywarp's one-note personality and the fact that he can access the memories of his creator, he doesn't act like, uh, a three-day-old, so I will go into that in a little more detail in his personality section.
Gender: Technically agendered, but he has a (generally) masculine voice and identifies with male pronouns.
Personality: Skywarp is a clone of Starscream, which means he was brought to life using a tiny little sliver of his creator's AllSpark shard. It also means that he's cursed with only one aspect of his creator’s personality, and unfortunately for him, he got cowardice. Lacking any other personality elements to balance it out, that cowardice has translated into fear--fear of everything. Skywarp is afraid of fighting, afraid of getting hurt, afraid of hurting other people, afraid of Autobots, afraid of Decepticons, afraid of stasis lock, afraid of flying too high or too fast, afraid of organics, afraid of-- Well, you get the picture. He’s a little bundle of terror. That’s about it.
Because of his cowardice, Skywarp can be easily manipulated, and by manipulated I mean bullied. His inherent fear of making other mechs angry at him means he’s easy to coerce. Push him too hard, though, and if he can, he won't hesitate to run away.
Like I said above, Skywarp is very young, which means he doesn't have a lot of experience and can be really clueless about some things. (Like, say, which of the mundane objects in his environment should legitimately be feared and which aren't scary at all, seriously Skywarp, calm down.) However, his ability to access Starscream's memories means that there are some things he knows far too much about for his own peace of mind-- things like fighting and combat, and the long history of atrocities and hardship associated with the war.
Backstory: Skywarp’s very short history starts on the moon, where his creator Starscream has been using the crashed Nemesis as his base of operations. By combining protoforms stolen from Master Yoketron and shells built to mimic his own, Starscream has learned how to clone himself. After his first attempt to utilize clones to achieve his goals ends explosively, he decides to go big: he makes an army to assault Megatron directly. Skywarp is the last of five clones activated to help Starscream finally defeat Megatron and take his rightful place as head of the Decepticon army.
Too bad for Starscream that his clones are...flawed. Like all the rest, Skywarp is vitalized by a fragment of Starscream’s AllSpark shard; like all the rest, that means he’s been gifted with but a fragment of Starscream’s personality, and Skywarp is the coward clone. When Starscream informs his new army that they’re going to go after Megatron, he objects. It sounds terrifying!
Regardless, he’s present when Starscream leads the clone army into battle at Megatron’s cavern stronghold. He even manages to attack Megatron all by himself! ...Of course, as soon as the Decepticon warlord starts deflecting the shots, his fear of fighting/getting hurt/Megatron in general kicks in and his attack falters. After that, he proceeds to do nothing useful in terms of the battle at all, trying to flee when Bumblebee attacks him and quickly getting captured by Blurr. Before his fear of stasis lock can overwhelm him, though, he gets to deal with a new terror--being stuck with Thundercracker and Blurr in a mess of glue and knocked into a space bridge, destination unknown.
The three of them end up somewhere pretty desolate, trapped on an asteroid in the middle of space. A suggestion of Blurr’s leads to Thundercracker breaking the three of them out of the hardened cement, much to Skywarp’s very probable relief. Without a second thought, Thundercracker abandons Skywarp to chase after the escaping Blurr, and that’s the last we see of him.
Moral Standing: Neutral, really. Skywarp is too fundamentally afraid to be good or evil-- if anything, his morality is pretty much entirely self-serving. He'll do whatever's necessary to keep himself out of danger. He's pretty meek, so he's honestly going to fall out on the side of "good" (i.e., not-violent, non-threatening behavior), but anything he does will be entirely for his own benefit.
Dreams: Skywarp has no dreams. He's too young and too controlled by his fear to want anything more than immediate physical safety, which really isn't much of a long term type of goal. I will say that I would love to develop him to the point where he feels comfortable enough to be able to pursue something beyond 'ESCAPE SCARY THINGS', and if he does ever reach that point, it's very likely that one of his goals will include trying to find some way to buffer, cure, or otherwise ameliorate his fragment-deep cowardice. Learning to control his 'warping, once he discovers he has it, is going to be another one.
Fears: Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha everything. No, really. But speaking more seriously, Skywarp hopefully should soon learn to be able to prioritize his fears, and once he's done that, there are some things that are going to be much bigger concerns than others. Acute fear of disappointing people (therefore hypothetically leading them to take their disappointment out on him), fear of change, and fear of the unknown (and therefore unquantifiably dangerous) are all likely to be big, behavior-influencing ones for him.
Extra: Because his body is an exact copy of Starscream's, Skywarp is equipped with arm-mounted laser blasters! ...That he almost never uses them, for fear of them malfunctioning and injuring them.
He's also capable of 'warping, or teleporting, the ability from which he takes his name. There's no canon explanation for why and how he can do this-- he doesn't even do it in the show, actually, but the ability is canonized by his toy bio and the AllSpark Almanac (supplementary material released by the show's creators after it was canceled). So I'm going to headcanon it a bit, and say that his ability stems from his AllSpark fragment--possibly as a manifestation of his sheer panicking desire to escape when things overwhelm him. He won't actually know he's capable of 'warping when he arrives in the city, and though he'll figure it out fast, it's going to take him a while to control it or be able to do it voluntarily.
Aaand finally, because he's so young, Skywarp will not actually have a name when he comes to the city. None of the clones are given names in the show, probably because they were mostly meant to be cannon fodder in Starscream's glorious defeat of Megatron, and I can't imagine him having had the inclination to name himself, especially not after an ability he doesn't yet know he has! I'd love for him to be named that, uh, eventually, either by choice or via another character so christening him, but when he starts out he will only think of himself as a clone of Starscream.
Character Location: No location for Skywarp~ He's too young to have an attachment to anywhere, poor thing.
Samples: Here's a brief scene showing Skywarp's activation and the very glaring personality flaws possessed by him and his clone brothers.
Writing Sample:
When the confining cement had broken around him, the clone wanted to howl with relief. The constriction of the goop had felt unbearable; the fact that he was stuck in close proximity to another angry Starscream clone and an Autobot--the enemy!-- had been even worse.
It was a remembered reprimand from his brash blue brother that kept him silent, though. "Cease your pathetic sniveling until you have something to say that's worthy of wasting my time!" he'd been told, not long after they'd all gone through the space bridge together; hesitant to risk the other clone's wrath, he had been silent since.
He couldn't help a whimper as he hit the ground in a mess of shattered rubble, but by then there was no one to hear it and take him to task. His erstwhile companions were already gone, the Autobot agent fled faster than he could ever hope to follow and his blue brother giving chase anyway.
He didn't know whether he was relieved that his rather intimidating fellow captives had left him in peace instead of pieces, or worried that he was now on his own. He took a few abortive steps after the other two mechs, but no more than that. They were already gone, and he didn't know if he could follow. What if his navigation protocols glitched and he got lost?
What if he ran into something dangerous, or attracted attention? He didn't know where he was, he had no idea, and there could be any kind of cranky, territorial organisms out here with him!
Or worse, what if he did manage to catch up to them, and they didn't want him around? What if they were fighting and expected him to participate?!
No no no, it was safer by far to stay where he was, the clone decided, even if he didn't actually know where that was. If he noticed the way his wings trembled or his engine whined as he turned his back on the direction the other two had disappeared, he didn't show it, but he did tangle his claws together in front of his cockpit as he struck out with hesitant steps in the opposite direction.
He was feeling far too exposed and vulnerable under the wide-open sky for his comfort. Shelter, shelter was key. Maybe once he was under cover he'd be able to stop shaking so hard and figure out what, if anything, he was supposed to do now.
